CBV IP Valuations Survey

Valuation: Bridging the gap between intellectual property and debt financing

Most companies need capital to scale, grow and sometimes survive at some point. Yet when seeking financing, few companies tap into one of their most valuable assets - their intellectual property (IP). One of the main challenges to IP-backed financing identified by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is IP valuation.

As an expert in this field, you play an important role which is critical to IP-backed financing. Therefore, you are invited to participate in a short survey about IP valuation.

In collaboration with WIPO, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is preparing a report on IP-backed financing in Canada. We are honoured to collaborate with the CBV Institute and its members to gather information from the CBV community about IP valuation. Your feedback will help us gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by CBVs in the context of IP valuations, and how we can address them to drive greater innovation and growth.

This survey takes approximately 5 minutes to complete. Your answers will remain completely anonymous.

If you wish to be notified when Canada’s IP-backed financing country perspective report is released or have any questions regarding the survey and related report, please email lisa.desjardins@ised-isde.gc.ca.

Note: “IP valuation” is any valuation conclusion that includes IP such as patents, trademarks, copyrights, etc. IP is legally defined as any intellectual, industrial or other proprietary right of any type in any form protected or protectable under the laws of Canada, any foreign country or any political subdivision of any country, including, without limitation, any intellectual, industrial or proprietary rights protected or protectable by legislation, by common law or at equity.
